Designing a website for a modern accounting practice

Our latest project for a Melbourne based accountant just went live! www.secondnatureaccounting.com.au

A new breed of accountant

Second Nature Accounting was founded by Matt Goss, an accountant based in Burwood, Melbourne, and Matt is one of a new breed of accountants who uses Xero, an accounting platform that caters for small to medium sized businesses and technology focused clients who thrive in today’s connected digital age and expect immediate and up to date accounting information.

The Xero revolution

Xero is online accounting made easy and is a cloud accounting platform which has been leading a revolution amongst accountants for a few years now.  Xero offers an arsenal of cloud based tools that allows forward thinking accountants like Matt, more time to focus on being more than just an accountant. Xero allows Matt to focus on helping his clients advance their business and reach their business goals by providing better insights, more advisory and even a full business management service including HR issues, cashflow forecasting, funding advice, strategic marketing and management reporting.

More than just an online brochure

Matt approached us to design and build a website for his new venture which he wanted to become a vital tool to his business and not just a static online brochure. He also wanted a site that was built to perform and could grow with his business.

A website is one of the best marketing tools a business has in todays digital era and so needs to be more than just an online brochure. It needs to be a business’s sales and marketing tool, lead generator, support desk, and a lot more.

Instant quoting

For Matt, it was also important that potential clients visiting the website could get a quote online with just a few clicks. Enter Practice ignition.

Practice Ignition is an online quoting and engagement tool which is helping lead the charge for accountants like Matt really become a modern practice.

Newsletter integration

Another important tool we built into the site was an automatic Mailchimp signup form . This allows users to sign up to Second Nature Accountings mailing list straight from the website without Matt having to add them manually.

Social media branding

A few years ago it would have been unheard of for an accounting firm to be have a Facebook page or to be even tweeting, but this is a modern practice and so it was important to make sure that all Second Nature Accounting’s social media pages were branded consistently across all platforms and linked to the website.

Website performance

Hosted on a business grade server for speed and security we built the site on WordPress which will allow for great search engine optimisation, performance, scalability and will also give Matt the power to update the site himself.

We chose to build a custom template for WordPress which allowed us to build a website bespoke to Matt’s requirements and will also allow for much better scalability down the line.

To make the  website optimised for all mobile and tablet devices we opted for a responsive design which means that the design adjusts it’s parameters and layout according to the device you are viewing it on. This gives the user a much better experience and increases engagement.

The way accounting should be

With tools like Xero, Mailchimp, WordPress and Practice Ignition, we have helped Matt set Second Nature Accounting up to be a truly modern practice. Is yours?
